This is a plate that was thrown on a bat that was spun by a wheel that allowed for the plate to have a even circular shape throughout the clay. Unfortunately I was absent the day after I threw it so I was not able to foot it because the plate tried very fast because it was quite thin, i instead sanded it to smooth out it's surface. This plate was glazed with clear and pink glaze. First, the plate was glaze with a pink glaze that was poured over the top surface and then sponged off were it was unwanted. Then is was completely dipped in clear glaze and was once again sponge off were is was not wanted(especially the bottom). Unfortunately the clear and pink glazes did not mix very well because after going through the glaze kiln the pink has some bare spots and is not evenly dispersed through out the top. Next time I should try to dip it all in pink then sponge off the pink were I do not want glaze and then dip it in clear glaze. Skills used to create this plate was evenly pulling out the centered and compressed base to give it its circular shape that a circular plate possesses. Art Elements used is the project was balance because the pink is evenly put in the center of the plate then edged in clear. The glazes used give texture to the surface of the clay because you are able to see some of the different minerals in the clay and glaze. This project is because pink is one of my favorite colors and this is my first time using a pink glaze on a project. I hope to use the pink more often and figure out how to allow get a good consistency through the surface of a bisqued ceramics project.
